
It’s a good time for people who love both documentary film and pianos. On Friday, the acclaimed and multi-award-winning Pianomania opened in theaters, and now the popular 2005 short Mott Music has been made available to stream online for free via the Documentary Channel Screening Room.
This 26-minute work, which takes us inside a Bronx piano factory and introduces us to some very interesting characters there, is directed by Jarred Alterman, whose odd new film, Convento, is one of my favorite docs of this year. Mott Music is a fascinating trip through history (of the building, of music, of pianos) and the pondering minds of a dealer, a voicer and a technician.
It’s a quick and charming piece, so you should head over and check it out.
