Watch: “Gasland” Spin-Off Short “The Sky is Pink” and Rebuttal Film “Truthland”

Oscar-nominated filmmaker Josh Fox continues his crusade against hydraulic fracturing, the cause at the center of his debut documentary, GasLand. Fox has been hard at work on a sequel, simply titled Gasland 2, and while we wait for that follow-up feature, he’s been giving us some short supplements for the time being. The latest is The Sky is Pink, a 19-minute film aimed at New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and focuses on the proposal of fracking in the Empire State.

There’s also a lot of reference back to claims made by GasLand, particularly the bits about tap water being lit on fire, and response to the rebuttals. There’s also a nice PDF of the annotated documents featured in the short, which you can download via Rolling Stone.

Of course America’s Natural Gas Alliance has already made a public reply to this new video, calling it “irresponsible and meant to drive fear,” while urging New York “to move forward with responsible and balanced rules permitting development of the New York’s natural gas resource.”

The Sky is Pink also comes on the heels of another short documentary, Truthland: Dispatches from the Real Gasland, which was posted online earlier this month. This half-hour-long responsive film arrives ahead of the pro-fracking doc FrackNation, which I wrote about two months ago. As someone who likes to remain neutral and hear all sides of an issue, I am including Truthland in full below.

For more shorts and probably more updates on the issue from Josh Fox, follow him on Vimeo.

For more on the TruthLand claims and extra interview clips, visit the film’s website.
